PNG surf report

Hi guys - here's the latest from Papua New Guinea:

Guys from PNG surf lodge in Vanimo have sent us the following surf report:

Hello The Perfect Wave!

We are in a similar pattern as last week with surf building on Wednesday and then tapering off for the end of the week. All things considered, there are definitely fun waves around the area and the guests are making the most of it.

With just a few locals in the water, we have been scoring really fun head-high+ at both Lido Right and Left. Overall conditions have been almost ideal with a steady pattern of surfing Lido Right in the morning followed by a few afternoon surfs at Lido Left. It may seem a bit routine, but I don’t hear many people complaining about consistent waves. Friday offered relatively small waves but a quick trip up to the waterfalls; fun fishing off the beach and a bit of snorkelling offered a good escape and exercise. Stay tuned for next week’s blog and updates from Vanimo Surf Lodge PNG!

Surfing in Mentawai - highlights from 2013 season

As the Mentawai surf charter Tengirri prepares for its final voyage for 2013, we thought it was time for a quick blast for some highlights from the 2013 season. Starting in March for some early season luck, then the larger swells started in May and the size didn’t really back off till late October. Still, reports of some empty sessions going down the last few weeks, for those lucky enough to still be out there.

Check out below some of the best photos from Tengirri Mentawai surf charters in 2013! All images are copyright Tengirri.

For those of you who are still looking around for a Mentawai surf charter for 2014, Tengirri still has some spots available throughout the year.  Check ‘em out below:

19 April - 1 May ….. 4 spots.
3 - 15 May …..2 spots.

Rubio, Papua New Guinea surf report

Papua New Guinea surf season has officially started!

We talked to our friends at PNG Explorer surf charter, and they are just on their first trip of the season, scoring uncrowded surf breaks.

From Rubio Surf Resort in New Ireland, we have been getting news and photos for a few weeks now. The waves are on, and before the guests start coming in larger numbers, the resort owner Shane Clark surfs the break out front by himself, or with handful of friends and staff.

It has been a great start to the season with swell  but a very slow start with guests. We have our first surfers of the season now. We surfed Bulu for the first time this season yesterday and you can see the results below. My favorite board for Bulu and Kurlies. Hopefully some of our guest will come with boards they want to sell!

Six Senses Laamu welcomes Chef Phil Howard for three exclusive events in November

Celebrity Chef Philip Howard will be visiting The Perfect Wave's surf resort Six Senses Laamu for three exclusive events in November 2013. As Head Chef and co-owner of The Square in London’s Mayfair from its opening in December 1991, his distinctive modern French cuisine has enjoyed great success and he has been awarded two Michelin stars - one in 1994 and the second in 1998.

Phil will be presenting his signature five-course dinner at LEAF Restaurant on Monday November 25th and Wednesday November 27th. On Tuesday November 26th, he will be holding a Master Class in the Cooking Hut. He will also be attending the General Managers cocktail, where guests will have the opportunity to chat with him and perhaps glean a culinary tip or two.

Following this surf resorts’ concept, Phil will be using both local and fresh ingredients from the organic garden just below LEAF. We also work with Maldivian fishermen and farmers to source the freshest and finest ingredients.

Referred to as a chef’s chef, Australian-born Philip studied bio-chemistry at university and signed up for an apprenticeship at Roux Restaurants before working with such heavyweights as Simon Hopkinson and Marco Pierre White.

He has spent much of his career nurturing young chefs, making The Square a proud training ground for a new generation of chefs. Both his second and third restaurants have also been awarded Michelin stars: two stars for Ledbury and one star for Kitchen W8.

Come and visit Six Senses Laamu Atoll, surf the Yin-Yang break out front, and enjoy some great food and fantastic atmosphere at this surf resort.
